We recommend all students start with Foundation 1, even if they've studied improv elsewhere. Other improv schools have different styles and values, so while you may have learned how to improvise, you haven't learned the BATS Improv way. Just like any art form, we approach improv with certain perspectives and theories. To get the most from our training, we want our students to be familiar with the BATS values of theatrical stories and characters, which are both pillars of the Foundation 1 curriculum.

For students who have significant equivalent experience, we will sometimes make an exception to this policy. If you believe you fit this description, please contact our School Dean, Dave Dennison, at dave@improv.org. Then you can schedule an audition where he can determine where you'd best fit at BATS.
